Delphina Pithoud Alexander daughter of Elisha & Margaret Ratcliff Pithoud was born at the old Pithoud homestead in Fountain Co May 20, 1868 and departed this life Wed eve Jan 21, 1948 age 79 year s8 months 1 day. She was the fifth daughter in a family of 8 children, namely: Juliet, Serilda, Hannah, Margaret, Delphina, Amy, James B. Alexander of Parke Co. and they established their home in Marshall. To this union 3 children were born: Leona, Reed & Arkell. Oct 21, 1896 the husband and father was taken from the home. After this sad event in her home she went back to the home of her parents where the children grew up and she assisted with all the home duties. After the death of her mother she went to the home of her daughter where she spent the remainder of her life. She was a devoted mother and willing to make any sacrifice for her children. She was kind and generous and there was no task too difficult for her to do for the pleasure of others. She was an ardent lover of nature and during the active years of her life spent many happy hours collecting rocks for her rock garden and cultivating the beautiful flowers and plants that were so dear to her. Several years ago she was stricken with an ailment which deprived her of all these pleasures but through the long years of sickness and suffering she was so tenderly cared for by the daughter and husband and could she have realized this tender care and devotion that was bestowed upon her and the kindness and many nice things the other relatives and friends did to help, her happiness would have been complete but we feel that this long, dark night of despair has vanished and the light of the glorious morn has shown through for the spirit has taken its flight and the frail body is at rest. S he is gone, the book of her life is closed but the memory of her good deeds and kindness still lingers in the minds of all who knew her. She leaves a daughter, Leona Miller a son, Reed Alexander of Crawfordsville. The other son Arkell preceded her in death bout four years ago. She is also survived by one grandson< Arnold Alexander of Bellflower, California, one granddaughter, Eileen Earl of Bridgeton and a son-in-law, Thomas Miller, a daughter in law, Lulu Alexander, also four nephews, and 3 nieces. - kbz
